Youth

Our Youth program is for students grade 7 through grade 12.  If you have any questions about being involved in the Youth Program or volunteering to help with the Youth, you may contact the Church Office at secretary@cumclansdale.org.

  • Confirmation

Students begin Confirmation in 7th grade to learn about their faith.  There is an emphasis on establishing and deepening their personal relationship with Jesus, church history and our creeds, the meaning of worship and an education about United Methodism.  They will participate in field trips, a youth mission trip over the summer, overnights at the church and other faith-building activities.  Confirmation spans two school years, 7th and 8th grade.  During a special service in June, students who complete the program may declare their faith and enter into membership within the congregation. The group meets during the Sunday School hour upstairs beside the Youth Room.

  • Senior High Sunday School

Students in 9th through 12th grade meet weekly in the upstairs Youth Room.  The Senior High Sunday School Class will explore the Bible, engage in conversations of ideas about God, the call to social justice, the relevance of the Christian faith as well as a Methodist approach to encountering Christ, being disciples of Jesus and service to others in a challenging world.

  • Youth Music

Youth Choir - Youth that are in 7th through 12th grade can participate in this choir.  The youth learn two to three part songs, depending on the size of the choir.  It is a group that shows the joy of a life journey with God through their music and their energy in rehearsals.  This group is directed by Jen Hopple and meets Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 6:45 in the Sanctuary.

Agape Ringers - 7th through 12th grade youth can learn various handbell techniques and improve their music reading skills.  This ensemble has a special talent to spread Jesus's love through the sanctuary no matter what piece of music they have chosen.  This group is directed by Elysa Dalbow and they meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 in the Fellowship Hall Rose Garden Room 7.

Grace in Progress (Youth Praise Band) - This group is open to all in 7th through 12th grade interested in signing/playing praise music.  They learn contemporary Christian music together while learning to play their instruments, how to play as a group and how to love like Jesus.  Bill Schaefer leads this group.  Stay tuned for a rehearsal schedule!

  • Youth Group

CUMC YOUTH is the ministry of Christ United Methodist Church serving youth in 7th through 12th grade and their families. We seek to provide a safe environment for our youth to talk and share while growing in their faith in Christ Jesus through fun and fellowship. We seek to develop not only Christian teens, but teens that will remain faithful to Jesus beyond their teenage years. Youth Group will meet on the 2nd Sunday of each month with a meal beginning at 5:30 p.m. We will conclude around 7:30 p.m. There will also be a “drop-in time” on the 4th Friday of each month from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. where the youth may stop in for some snacks, fun, and activities. If you have any questions, or wish to serve as an adult volunteer, please contact the office.

Led by Jeanmarie Loss, Nicholas Hill, & Pastor Zachary Hopple.

  • Youth Mission Opportunities

Every summer our CUMC Youth take a mission trip for about 1 week.  Past mission trip locations have been Crisfield, Maryland and New England area work camps.  In the summer of 2019 the youth attended Blue Rose Mission in Mansfield, Ohio. This mission trip is a wonderful time for our youth to come together and serve while team building at the same time!  Our youth hold several fundraisers throughout the year to help fund this trip.  Fundraisers include hoagie sales and a spaghetti dinner.

  • Youth Service Opportunities

Assist with Church Meals - CUMC Youth really shine during our annual spaghetti dinner where they are the servers and make you feel like you are out at a nice resturaunt.  They also assist with serving at our Pancake Breakfast as well as our Santa Breakfast!

VBS - During VBS you never have to look far to find one of our Youth members.  They are the stars of our drama and work hard to tell a fun story for the week to the VBS participants.  They also assist our teachers in various areas throughout the week.

Nursery and Circuit Kids - Youth that like to work with children are able to help in the church nursery and during circuit kids.

Trunk or Treat - Our Youth participate in trunk or treat and provide some games for the children to play.
